The Thinnest Foldable Smartphone - Honor Magic V3 [Smartphone Battery]
The Thinnest Foldable Smartphone - Honor Magic V3
Honor already offered the world’s slimmest folding phone with its impressively sleek Honor Magic V2, but rather than resting on its laurels, the brand is back with an even skinnier book-style foldable: the Honor Magic V3.It's hard to overstate just how slim this phone is – the rear section barely has enough room for its USB-C port. You could easily mistake the Magic V3 for a non-foldable device, and plenty of candy bar phones are actually thicker than Honor’s latest foldable (indeed, the Magic V3 is almost as thin as the iPhone 15 Pro Max).
When you fold the Magic V3, you get an almost compact phone with a 6.4-inch screen and around 9 mm thickness. I know the difference to other foldables isn't that huge (the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 5.6mm unfolded and 12.1mm folded), but a couple of millimeters make a huge difference. It's uncanny!
Of course, dimensions are only one part of the puzzle, and with premium pricing, you want performance to match. On that front, Honor has stuffed the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor into the Magic V3, along with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a sizable 5,150mAh battery.
Now, after I've blabbered about the thickness of the device for far too long, let's check out the design. The phone uses exotic materials for its construction, such as Special Fiber (similar to fiberglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber), Super Steel (the hinge should withstand 500,000 folds and unfolds), Super Armored Inner Screen (nanoscale coating allegedly making the flexible screen 500% more scratch-resistant), and NanoCrystal Shield for the cover screen.
Honor has upped the protection and reinforcement of the Magic V3. It has an IPX8 rating that allows for submersion up to 1.5m, although Honor has stated it can go to 2.5m. New materials offer more strength to the back panel in a thinner area, while the hinge is rated for over 500,000 folds and unfolds.
The outer display has a typical strengthed cover. A new technique is needed for the foldable screen. Honor has engineered a gel that rapidly hardens on impact to reduce the impact damage. These are the sorts of areas where a single user can’t quantify.
Still, plenty of reviewers have taken their time to throw the handset through washing machines, hanging weights off the fingers, and various opened and closed drop tests to suggest that day-to-day use will not need kid gloves.
